The situation
Universities produce PDFs in a decentralised way: faculties, examination offices, the library, lecturers. There is no uniform template and rarely anyone who checks every file.
Teaching materials in particular are often created at short notice. A check with an easy-to-understand report helps lecturers manage without specialist knowledge of tags and reading order.
Typical documents
- Module handbooks and study regulations
- Examination regulations and statutes
- Lecture notes and slide decks
- Publications and theses
- Administrative forms
- Information brochures
How DokAudit helps
- Existing documents and new production: Find and check existing PDFs with a website scan; correct new documents automatically on an ongoing basis in the hub or via the API.
- Evidence for every document: A test report with a traffic-light rating, findings in plain language and references to PDF/UA and WCAG, as a PDF for your records.
- PDF/UA identifier only after a passed check: Remediation continues until the veraPDF check passes. Only then is the PDF/UA identifier set.
- Public prices: 1 credit = 5 pages, no surcharges, no user licence. From €0.50 net per page, free pilot with 20 credits.
- Data protection: Hosting in Germany, deletion after 7 days, data processing agreement online. On request as a container in your own data centre.
Example: 780 pages cost 156 credits, i.e. €390 net. Lecturers can use it without a licence and without a seat limit, because billing is per page.
What the rules require
Public universities are generally public sector bodies within the meaning of the accessibility requirements for websites and documents (Directive (EU) 2016/2102, implemented through the law of the German federal states). In addition, higher education rules on compensation for disadvantages (Nachteilsausgleich) may apply.
Which requirements apply to your institution depends on the federal state and on who runs your institution.
