PDF accessibility for banks and financial service providers
Schedules of prices and services, product information, contract documents and reports: anyone offering banking services to consumers must also provide the associated documents in accessible form. DokAudit checks, repairs and documents them, individually or via the API.

The situation
In finance, documents are created partly by hand and partly by systems, from output management and core banking systems. Tables with conditions, fees and figures in particular are only usable with screen readers if header cells and reading order are correct.
In addition, there are savings banks (Sparkassen), Landesbanken and other publicly owned institutions, for which, depending on their classification, the requirements for public sector bodies may also be relevant.
Typical documents
- Schedules of prices and services
- Product and conditions sheets
- General terms and conditions
- Contract and application documents
- Annual and sustainability reports
- Forms for customers
How DokAudit helps
- Existing documents and new production: Find and check existing PDFs with a website scan; correct new documents automatically on an ongoing basis in the hub or via the API.
- Evidence for every document: A test report with a traffic-light rating, findings in plain language and references to PDF/UA and WCAG, as a PDF for your records.
- PDF/UA identifier only after a passed check: Remediation continues until the veraPDF check passes. Only then is the PDF/UA identifier set.
- Public prices: 1 credit = 5 pages, no surcharges, no user licence. From €0.50 net per page, free pilot with 20 credits.
- Data protection: Hosting in Germany, deletion after 7 days, data processing agreement online. On request as a container in your own data centre.
Example: a 60-page schedule of prices and services needs 12 credits, which at €2.50 per credit is €30 net. For regular new versions, integration via the API pays off.
What the rules require
The Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG, Germany’s implementation of the European Accessibility Act, Directive (EU) 2019/882) has applied since 28 June 2025 to certain consumer services, including banking services for consumers. The technical basis is EN 301 549 with WCAG and PDF/UA. Which of your offerings and documents are covered depends on the individual case.
Publicly owned institutions may additionally fall under the requirements for websites and documents as public sector bodies (Directive (EU) 2016/2102). Clarify the classification with your legal or compliance department.

Frequently asked questions
- Can system-generated documents be integrated?
- Yes, via the REST API. Your system submits the finished PDF and a signed webhook reports the result back. We are happy to discuss in advance, using your samples, how mass output such as account statements can be integrated in your case.
- What happens to tables?
- Tables are given a structure with header cells. The test report shows for each document what was fixed automatically and what you should follow up on in the source.
- Does customer data have to leave our organisation?
- We recommend processing only templates without personal data. The AI functions can be switched off, and on request DokAudit runs as a container in your data centre.
